(Neptune, NJ) – On November 17, 2017, Neptune Twp. P.O. Dominique Russo was on patrol in the area of West Lake Ave. and Fisher Ave. when she heard a gunshot. Upon checking the area, P.O. Russo located Turon Melvin, 31-year-old Asbury Park resident in the area. While attempting to further her investigation, Melvin ran from the scene with a .45 caliber handgun in his right hand. P.O. Russo pursued Melvin down the street, through residential properties where she was able to recover the large caliber handgun thrown by Melvin, catch up to him and effectuate an arrest on the 200 Block of Myrtle Ave. Further investigation yielded evidence of a gun being shot in the area where Melvin was initially approached by P.O. Russo.
Melvin was charged with Aggravated Assault, Possession of a Handgun for Unlawful Purpose, Unlawful Possession of a Handgun, Certain Persons not to Possess Weapons, Resisting Arrest and Throwing Bodily Fluids at a Law Enforcement Officer.
Melvin was transported to Monmouth County Correctional Institution where he was being held for a bail hearing under the bail reform guidelines.
