(Neptune, NJ) – A 16-year-old township juvenile is in custody after an armed robbery at knifepoint occurred around 8:00 AM earlier this morning.
Neptune Twp. Police responded to the area of the 600 Block of Highland Ave. for a reported armed robbery of a taxi driver. Due to the location and nature of the incident, police immediately notified the Summerfield Elementary School on Green Grove Rd. which engaged a brief and precautionary lockdown of their school. The lockdown was lifted and police maintained a presence at the school until the normal school day commenced at 9:00 AM. At no time were students or staff members in any danger.
The incident remained under investigation at which point the accused was apprehended approximately one mile away at 9:30 AM.
The juvenile was charged with Robbery, Unlawful Possession of a Weapon, Possession of a Weapon for Unlawful Use and Obstruction. He was lodged in the Middlesex County Youth Correctional Facility.
